The painting

So here is the painting* I referenced a few weeks back. Unfortunately I never got a good picture of it-I feel it's more crisp and painterly in real life, but oh well. The top picture is at my house and the bottom is the one Gretel took of it at the gallery. I also had a sculptural piece in the show but maybe I'll show that later.
I've always felt I'm horrible at explaining or describing my work but this is somewhat representative of my paintings. I love painting skin tones and tend to want them surrounded by a muted palette. Another commonality is a somewhat formal and traditional setting with a hint of the strange lurking about. (maybe not so much in this particular one, but in general)

I wanted to thank my wonderful friend Gretel so much for including me into this show. (As well as all the other things she has done for me). THANK YOU!

* That's not me in the painting.

oooooo la la lady! I can stare and stare at her. good. Also, I really love the way the shirt looks painted by you... I dont know why exactly --wish the painting would stay visible while I made my comment cause then maybe I would figure out the why part--but okay my favorite part to sink into is the shirt. Ill go back to the painting now and see if I can get to the why. ;)

Kimberley, this is LOVELY. The quiet eyes and the shadow behind her... I really really really like it. And I can't wait to see the sculpture.

It looks fantastic, almost like a picture but with all the warmth of a painting. Well done!

Beautiful painting, and what a wonderful blog! This was my first visit (I was linked from an old design*sponge post), and I'll certainly be checking back in soon.

This is such a beautiful painting! I liked you sculptures on Etsy so much that I followed the link to your blog and it's amazing how you combine playfulness with so much serious artistry in your work. Great stuff =)
