Fine Art

Thanks to the lovely Maud and her great links, I've discovered Anders Zorn-apparently a well known Swedish Artist (1860-1920). Instead of feeling cheated that I hadn't seen his work before I've decided I'll just be happy I know of it now.
I've always felt computers (and books) do paintings like this a huge disservice, I'm sure to see them in person is amazing.

Good old Zorn :)
Yes always such a difference between a flat little image and the real thing. Great paintings should be seen IRL just like great movies deserves a good cinema screen...
I remember visiting the National Gallery for the first time and seeing Rousseau's 'Surpris!' for real. Soo good and I was so happy. I've loved that painting since I was a kid and there was a picture of it in my favorite art book that I used to look at before going to sleep...

I am glad you like him. He really is one of those old classics who (it feels like) has always been there in my brain's image bank - and yes, to see the paintings on the wall is truly something else. Hope you had a lovely Midsummer :)

Anne & Maud, it's so true. This little discussion of ours makes me yearn to visit a museum (unfortunately, unless I want to see paintings of palm trees and egrets, I'll have to travel a bit)for some painting inspiration.
Zorn reminds me a bit of Singer Sargent who oddly enough lived during the exact same time. I think that's why I feel hesitant to post about paintings too-Illustrations and graphic art do much better in computer format don't you think?
